Church activities |
CLUB SUNDAY Club Sunday meets between 11am -12noon and is for children aged 3 years and over. The children join their families in the church for the first part of the service and then go out to their own group for fun and learning.
Children under 3 years are welcome to stay with parents or a crèche facility is available in our purpose made room. Company Section
The Company Section is for boys in years S1 to S6 We meet on a Friday night from 7.30 - 9.05pm and run a varied programme throughout the session. Our Company section boys are encouraged to formulate their own programme of activities based on the Boys' Brigade Discovery Award Scheme. A recent example of this has been the production of a number of short films written and filmed by the boys. First, second and third year boys work towards attaining three badges each session namely Community, Recreation and Skills. Our fourth year boys work towards attaining their Presidents badge and then ultimately work towards attaining the Queens badge in their fifth and sixth years. The Queens Badge is the highest honour in the Boys' Brigade and is a prestigious award in recognition of the hard work they will have undertaken. Our uniform for the Company Section consists of a blue Boys Brigade shirt, tie and hat. The Company Section can take part in various Battalion competitions such as football, swimming, basketball, cross-country and Bible quiz We have an annual indoor camp in Largs held over a weekend in May and organise a summer weekend break to an outdoor adventure centre. The past few years we have visited Lockerbie Manor sleeping in the camping pod village which is very popular with the boys. The re-introduction of our canvas camps is also being planned. The Company Section is run by our Captain Graeme Jordan. Graeme attended the 4th Ayr as a boy and was awarded with the Queens Badge. He then progressed on to being a leader and took over the role of Company Captain a year ago. He can be contacted via email to [email protected] The aim is for our boys to have fun and look forward to coming along on a Friday night. If your son would like to join our company, even for a few weeks to see what we are about, please come along. Our door is always open at St Andrews. Junior Section

Messy Church meets from 4-6pm on the first Saturday each month (excluding July, August and January) and we would encourage anyone to come along and join us.
What happens at Messy Church? Well, after a fun arrival activity, we offer a selection of crafts, games and challenges. Each of these is carefully designed to either present or reinforce the day’s chosen bible teaching. Mixed ages, mainly but not exclusively families, work together at all times and this creates the opportunity for plenty of discussion. Our aim is that everyone learns more about God, gets to know Him and each other better, thoroughly enjoys the activities and produces exciting art/craft work as a permanent reminder of the teaching. We then move from the hall to the lounge where talks, games, videos and quizzes support further bible teaching on the theme. There is also a time of worship and celebration before we return to the hall which has been transformed to accommodate us for a tasty meal. Our next meeting is on 4th May Our theme is Jesus doesn't change! and we look forward to seeing you in the church lounge. THURSDAY CLUB
The Thursday club meet to every fortnight 2.15-4 pm, to play games and enjoy both each other's company and the tea, coffee and baking provided. Any new members would be made very welcome.
THE GUILDOur motto is 'Whose we are and whom we serve'.
The aim of the guild is to invite and encourage women and men to commit their lives to Jesus Christ and enable them to express their faith in worship, prayer and action. Our group meet monthly (Oct.-April) in the Church Lounge on the second Wednesday of the month, from 2-4 pm. Visitors will be warmly welcomed and can expect companionship, tea and cakes. Our locum minister, Ian Jamieson, opened this past session and, unsurprisingly, we all enjoyed an interesting, lively afternoon. With a variety of very enjoyable events and speakers over the months, we concluded this year's meetings in April with our ever-popular Beetle Drive. Do come along and join us. Our 2019/20 syllabus will be posted soon. CRAFT GROUPThe Craft Group was formed in the winter of 1987 and has prospered since that time.
It was made up of lady members of the congregation and also with the help of a few male additions. It presently meets on the last Wednesday of each month throughout the year, except December, from 2 - 4 pm and those involved continue to enjoy the good fellowship prevailing. As always there is a welcome cup of tea or coffee. Since its beginnings the group has donated a considerable amount of money to various local and international charities and other deserving causes. An example is that just over £9000 raised from the sale of goods made by members was donated between the years 2004 to 2015. As with other organisations of this sort a decrease in member numbers has resulted in any money raised since 2016 being used for the purposes of our own Church for the benefit of the fabric of the buildings. Members continue to go forward in faith and are always on the lookout for new ideas and indeed new members! The proposal to have a regular meeting of the men within St. Andrew's Family was first discussed some three years ago. It was thought that a regular meeting of this nature was missing from within the Church calendar. The original idea was to have an informal dinner in a local venue, giving the opportunity to get to know one another in a purely social occasion.
After trying a number of venues, we have settled on The Ellisland Hotel where we enjoy a pleasant, relaxing atmosphere and a good, reasonably priced menu. Numbers have been very consistent over time. We usually have around ten people in attendance, depending upon holidays and family commitments. We cover a wide range of subjects in our get togethers: church, sport, hobbies and of course happy memories of school days and our various careers. With a fair number of retired police officers in our group, we are never short of funny stories. We intend continuing in the same format into the future. The Men's Club is promoted well at every opportunity within the Church. We hope to attract new members as we go along, Whatever happens we will continue to give the male members of the Church Family the chance to meet in an informal, social way with a fair bit of humour added. |
